WordPress has made it easier for people to upgrade, but if done incorrectly, you might end up with the White Screen of Death. This can be quite terrifying if you have a substantial amount of content. However, upgrades are important to keep WordPress running securely and effectively. We offer a monthly maintenance plan for those who would rather not deal with plugin, WordPress and theme updates. It is only $25 per month. CLICK HERE to subscribe and we will contact you to get the information we need to proceed. This service includes backing up your blog files and content as well as minor tweaks. (under 1 hour) For more extensive work, we will negotiate an hourly rate based on your needs and budget.
We also recommend you use a child theme rather than make custom changes on a stand alone template. Many times an upgrade will wipe out those changes. Child themes run on top of a basic framework that contains your important function files. Our favorite child theme collection is available at STUDIOPRESS Genesis Framework. StudioPress themes are used by many top bloggers because its support is excellent and the themes are highly optimized as well as professional.
The newest WordPress version requires that your WordPress configuration meets certain requirements. PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0 To check, install the HEALTH CHECK plugin. It will tell you if your blog is ready to upgrade. Problems are usually due to individual servers. We have not seen problems in the major servers such as Bluehost, Hostgator and Godaddy so far. Other more obscure servers may not be up to speed.
Happy upgrading and let us know if we can help!
