I’ve been watching the Olympics on TV and it’s so inspiring to see what it takes to have a gold medal state of mind. Take, for instance, Jordyn Wieber, an accomplished, US women’s gymnast, who suffered an upset by not being able to participate in the all around. She could have psyched herself out and shut down, but instead, put her disappointment aside, and helped her team win the Gold. The Russians, on the other hand, shut down. If you watched their reactions to the American’s win, you would have thought of a Dostoevsky scenario. The tears, the pain! They let their bad luck get the best of them.
When you are marketing your blog content, you may find yourself freaking out the same way. Some posts will flop and others with be winners. The point is, don’t just jump ship and abandon your blog simply because you didn’t get results out of the gate. Blogging and marketing your content successfully takes the same sort of discipline and constant practice that it does for an athlete to win a gold medal.
Even if you don’t see yourself blogging on a daily basis, set up a schedule to get your content out there on the Internet regularly, even if it’s only twice a month.

Olympic athletes each develop an individual technique that gets them to the finish line. Ryan Lochte found that lifting up a 600 lb tire gave him the strength to out swim Michael Phelps. Luckily you don’t have to lift a heavy tire to market your blog content, but if your hands are too weak to type, you may need to do some finger exercises. Just saying . . .
Have the Discipline to Overcome Obstacles
Even though you put in your best effort, every once in a while you are going to lose your balance and end up on your butt. Don’t give up and throw in the towel. Fix your mistake and get back in the race.
Hone Your Skills
You may not be a great writer at the get go. Or, you may have little to no technical skills. The more you practice, the better you get. Writing hit and miss in your blog doesn’t cut it.
Have a Strategy
It’s easy to write articles on the fly, but if you have a strategy, you will achieve success sooner. For instance, an Olympic long-distance runner is not going to use up all his or her energy as soon as the gun goes off to start. They pace themselves so that they can have that last burst of energy to fly past their opponents at the end.
Team Up for Success
Many of us in the online world work solo, but when you have a team to back you up, you have a better chance to achieve your goals. That may mean hiring support people to help you out in areas you do not have the skills or the time for. If you aren’t technical, don’t let that stop you from marketing your content online. Get others who are skilled to help you out because it will make you more money in the end. Develop joint venture partners who will work, in cooperation, to help each other gain visibility. Use social media tools that will spread your word to multiple sites and platforms and also cut back on time spent dealing with minutia.
So get out there and go for the GOLD!
