At every networking event I attend, I always meet multiple insurance agents, real estate brokers, financial planners, hypnotherapists, chiropractors, etc. What makes one more intriguing than the other? The answer is. . . they have branded themselves in a specific way.
When I walk through my front door, I usually pick up litter from a real estate agent, or pizza place. The litterbugs have spent money purchasing flyers, cards and promo items. Most of the time these efforts end up stuffed in the trashcan. They are rehashes of everyone else’s stuff.
As a business owner it is important to find a way to be different than all of the others in your field, so that your business not only stands out, but is clearly understood. Simply being an insurance agent means nothing unless you solve the problems of your customers. What will make you different? It may be the particular way you give service or participate in the community. You might choose a specific age group, such as 40 and older, to focus on. Perhaps you are the go-to person to make it simple for the average person to understand the lingo of how each plan works.
[ad#Adsense Text] Once you figure out what sets you apart from your competition, direct all your marketing efforts to focus on that aspect. When someone needs your area of expertise, they will think of you first. Be bold about it.
I have a friend who fixes computers. So do zillions of other people. He calls himself The Computer Doctor and both he and his wife show up at networking events dressed in doctor and nurse scrubs. He carries a stethoscope and even a bottle of pills (candy) that he gives out as a promo item. It sounds kind of crazy, but when a computer goes down, the doctor always comes to mind.
Establish yourself as a speaker at events so that others get to know exactly what you do. This includes online webinars. They are powerful tools. Write a blog with tips and send out a weekly ezine.
Diversify your marketing to include face to face networking and social media. Expanding your territories beyond your local market will help you establish multiple income streams. And that’s a good thing!
