We have all heard talk about multiple streams of income, but how many people are taking advantage of the opportunities that are out there? This is not to say you should jump on every hyped up claim to get rich fast. That would be foolhardy and downright stupid. I am talking about adding income streams to your existing business without spending much money to do it.
The fact is, you can take just about any small local business and find additional ways to monetize it by using a blog. If a disaster should strike your local area such as an earthquake, tornado or flood, and your only source of business is your store, what will happen? You could be looking at financial disaster.
Take for example, a hypnotherapist. A hypnotherapist generally works by appointment much like a hairdresser. A session might last 1 hour and takes quite a bit of energy on the hypnotherapist’s part. Not everyone can spend $100 per session (or whatever the fee is) and there is driving involved. Also, what would happen if the hypnotherapist decided he or she would like to go to Europe for 6 weeks? There would be patients who might freak out without a session and choose to go to another practitioner. A smart hypnotherapist might choose to record audio Mp3’s and market them online. A shopping cart can easily be added to a blog as well as helpful tips on how to alleviate stress, break bad habits, etc. Other products such as relaxation pillows, candles, and other paraphernalia can be sold and reviewed as affiliate products.
Affiliate income does not require inventory and does not cost the blogger a dime. All you do is sign up with a vendor who has an affiliate program, put a banner or link on your blog, write reviews, and if someone decides to check out the site and purchases a product, you get paid a commission. It is perfectly legitimate and can be very lucrative. Just adding Google Adsense strategically will pay for the hosting and domain fees for your blog.
Other ways to monetize your blog is to advertise online or offline courses, webinars and events that you are promoting. People love how to’s and the Internet is the source of information these days. If you are good at something, teach others how to do it as well.
Authors find blogging a perfect venue for promoting their books. This includes traditionally published, self published and eBooks. EBooks cost nothing to produce. They are simply PDF files that others can download and read. Add a PayPal, Amazon, or Clickbank link and Ka Ching!
I have been an actor for over 30 years. I remember when we had to mail pictures and resumes to agents hoping to get work. A blog gives an actor instant visibility. Just start writing about yourself, what you are up to and even include reviews of your projects. Add some podcasts and videos. Interact with your fan base. People will visit to find out more. A blog is a Google magnet. This goes for artists, musicians, and even plumbers. Don’t wait for people to click on your expensive static website. It won’t happen unless you are Julia Roberts. Blogs encourage interaction.
Now I’m not going to say that once you put up a blog you will be instantly rich. Blogging to monetize requires strategy. That is for another blog post. However, you could be missing out on multiple income streams without setting up a blog. Even $200 a month will pay for a week of groceries. Think about it.
